I’m a junkie. I listen to more Sports Radio than anyone I know.
When it comes to the early afternoon shift, I am an Irv and Joe guy. They do their thing on Mile High Sports Radio after Gil Whitely and before Mac and Doog, who I never listen to (the mid-afternoon shift belongs to Nate, Dmac, Cj and Al in no particular order).
I do, however, frequently flip to 104.3 during Irv and Joe to check in on Scott Hastings and Drew Goodman. They have a nice on-air rapport together and they are both savvy veterans of the broadcasting trade.
Today when I flipped I caught Goodman alone. Hastings had to depart the station early to prepare to cover tonights Nuggets game with the Chicago Bulls. Drew was talking golf – not exactly the closest topic to my heart – but I found myself really enjoying it. Goodman is, well, good.
Drew has worked play-by-play duties for various sports in Denver sports since the late 1980’s and he is currently the play-by-play voice of the Colorado Rockies for Root Sports. He’s a true pro in every sense of the word.
On my radio Drew comes accross as friendly, knowledgable and polished. It’s funny that, when he’s partnered with Hastings, I don’t notice as much that I like him. I really do. His personality isn’t as dynamic as the Fan’s big names, Dmac, Mike Evans, Alfred Williams and Scott Hastings, but he is no less a stalwart of the Denver Sports scene.
I enjoyed the opportunity to catch him solo this afternoon. As wonderful as Hastings is, I would like to enjoy Drew’s voice that way more often.
